Youth Day: Nigeria Must Invest More in Young Population – Speaker Abbas

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called for increased investment in Nigeria’s youth, stressing that they make up the majority of the country’s population and hold the key to its future.

In a statement on Tuesday to mark the 2025 International Youth Day, Abbas urged all levels of government to prioritise policies and programmes that cater to the needs and aspirations of young Nigerians.

He emphasised the importance of providing greater access to quality, affordable education, alongside robust skill acquisition and empowerment initiatives, describing such efforts as “investments in the country’s future.”

The Speaker also appealed to both public and private sector stakeholders to channel resources into talent development, entrepreneurship, and sports. According to him, such investments would help shield young people from crime and other social vices.

While encouraging Nigerian youths to remain patriotic, disciplined, and law-abiding, Abbas called on religious and cultural institutions to continue shaping them towards virtues and away from harmful behaviours.

He extended his best wishes to all young Nigerians as they celebrated International Youth Day.
