The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has extended his warm greetings to Nigerian workers on the occasion of the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration. In a goodwill message, Speaker Abbas acknowledged the invaluable contributions of workers to the country’s growth and development, describing them as “partners in progress.” He praised the tireless efforts of workers, particularly those in the organized labour sector, under the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Speaker Abbas hailed workers as the “engine room” of the economy, recognizing their immeasurable roles in driving the nation’s progress. He emphasized that workers deserve better welfare and commended the labour unions for their understanding with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration regarding their welfare, especially in the face of current economic challenges.
While urging workers to continue offering their services with zeal and patriotism, Speaker Abbas called for more productivity, noting that only citizens can sustain their fatherland. He emphasized the importance of workers’ contributions to the nation’s development and encouraged them to maintain their commitment to excellence.
The Speaker’s message highlighted the need for improved welfare for workers, acknowledging that they are the backbone of the economy. He commended the labour unions for their efforts in negotiating better working conditions and welfare packages for their members.
