The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Ihsanatu Shaaibu, who was caught on video physically abusing her 5-year-old stepdaughter, Fa’iza Bala.
The incident, which sparked outrage across social media platforms, showed the woman inflicting grievous injuries on the child.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspect was apprehended on Thursday, January 9, 2025. “The suspects have been arrested today and will be prosecuted as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.
The police assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and pledged to provide updates on the case.
The video, which went viral earlier this week, drew widespread condemnation from child rights advocates, with many calling for justice for the young victim.
