Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack in Borno, Neutralize Dozens, Recover Explosives and Motorcycles

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), with support from the Air Component, have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on their base in New Marte, Borno State, killing dozens of insurgents and recovering a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) as well as several motorcycles.

In a statement issued by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when insurgents attempted to breach the military location.

Alert troops on the ground engaged them in a fierce firefight, reinforced by personnel from the 24 Task Force Brigade Garrison and the 134 Special Forces Battalion.

The Air Component provided real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), along with precision airstrikes that inflicted heavy casualties on the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately, two soldiers lost their lives during the encounter.

During subsequent clearance operations, troops recovered an abandoned SUV rigged with explosives and discovered several destroyed motorcycles used by the insurgents. Numerous bodies and blood trails were also found along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, suggesting additional fatalities.

In a separate but related development, troops foiled another attempted attack on the Forward Operating Base in Kumshe, further dealing a blow to the terrorists’ momentum.

The Nigerian Army highlighted that the success of these coordinated operations reflects a renewed synergy between air and ground forces, reinforcing their commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace in the North East region.

Troops have pledged to maintain pressure on the insurgents and deny them any freedom of movement within the theatre of operations.
