Troops Neutralize Bello Turji’s Second-in-Command and Key Commanders in Major Offensive

In a significant breakthrough against terrorism in Nigeria’s northwest region, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a major blow to the network of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji.

Between January 20 and 21, 2025, the military neutralized Turji’s second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa, along with several of his close allies and key commanders.

The Defence Media Operations Directorate revealed in a statement that Turji’s younger brother, Dosso, and a close associate, Danbokolo, sustained critical injuries during the operation.

Among the commanders neutralized were Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe, among others.

Additionally, over 24 fleeing terrorists from Turji’s camp were eliminated in coordinated operations around Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Sokoto State, as well as Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State.

The operation also targeted another notorious terrorist loyal to the late Halilu Sububu.

The terrorist, identified as Suleiman, was killed while attempting to lead a reinforcement team to rescue Turji’s camp, which was already in disarray.

The military described these operations as a decisive blow to the terrorist network’s leadership and operational capabilities.

Bello Turji’s group has been linked to numerous kidnappings and attacks in the northwest, particularly in Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni LGAs of Zamfara and Sokoto States.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that troops remain resolute in their efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore safety to the region.

The military’s operations aim to ensure a secure environment for all citizens in the affected areas.

This offensive marks a significant step in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism in the northwest.
