Troops Kill 13 Terrorists in Failed Ambush in Borno, Recover Weapons

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralized 13 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during a failed ambush and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack along the Gubio–Damasak road in Borno State.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the incident occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, when troops were escorting humanitarian trucks to Damasak.

The terrorists had detonated two command IEDs and opened fire on the convoy. However, the troops responded swiftly, taking tactical positions and unleashing overwhelming firepower that killed 13 insurgents on the spot, while others fled in disarray.

The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists and recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten AK-47 magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, camel bags, several rolls of detonating cord wires, and primed IEDs.

While one soldier sustained a minor injury during the encounter and is reported to be in stable condition, the ambush also resulted in the damage of four MRAP tyres, with two humanitarian trucks gutted by fire.

Despite the incident, the military assured that relief materials being escorted were successfully secured and moved to Damasak. Troops have also intensified operations in the area to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the continued safety of humanitarian operations.
