Troops Engage in Fierce Battle Against Terrorists in Niger State Inflicts Causalities On Them.

In a display of valor and resilience, troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army courageously fought through an ambush by terrorists during a patrol mission to Karaga Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on April 19, 2024.

Despite the ambush, the troops successfully eliminated several terrorists and confiscated their equipment.

However, the encounter came at a heavy cost as six personnel, including two officers and four soldiers, tragically lost their lives.

Major General Landers Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Operation Whirl Punch, expressed condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, assuring them that the sacrifice would not be in vain.

In the aftermath of the ambush, the Nigerian Army is actively pursuing the surviving terrorists who fled the scene.

Major General Saraso emphasized the Army’s commitment to safeguarding the people of Niger State and urged citizens to continue their daily activities without fear.

Following tradition, the Next of Kin of the deceased soldiers have been informed, and the Muslim personnel were laid to rest with the approval of their families.

The burial ceremony, attended by high-ranking military officials including representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, was held at the Minna Military Cantonment Cemetery.

In a show of solidarity, the Deputy Governor and other senior officers visited the wounded soldiers receiving treatment at the Military Hospital and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The Nigerian Army encourages the public, especially residents of Niger and neighboring states, to provide valuable information to enhance security operations and support the efforts of the troops in combating terrorism.
