Training of 6,000 Recruits Marks a New Era in Nigerian Army’s Fight Against Insecurity- COAS

In a significant stride towards addressing Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, announced the graduation of 6,000 recruits from the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria.

This development, part of the Army’s comprehensive strategy to bolster national security, was highlighted during the Passing Out Parade of the 86th Regular Recruits Intake at the RSM Hama-Kim Parade Ground.

Addressing the newly minted soldiers, Gen Lagbaja emphasized their critical role in combating the diverse security threats facing the country.

“The young recruits passing out today will be integral to the Nigerian Army’s response to insurgency in the North East, banditry and cattle rustling in the North West, farmers-herders clashes in the North Central, secessionist agitations and cultism in the South East, and militancy and vandalism of national assets in the South South and South West,” stated Gen Lagbaja.

To ensure the recruits are fully prepared for these challenges, they will undergo advanced military training.

The COAS outlined a series of post-Depot courses designed to enhance their proficiency with the Army’s arsenal and hone specialized combat skills.

Additionally, Gen Lagbaja reassured the recruits that their welfare, including housing, medical care, and educational opportunities, would be prioritized to ensure their career development and personal well-being.

Gen Lagbaja also reminded the recruits of their duty to the nation, underscoring the importance of discipline, loyalty, and integrity. “By becoming a soldier, you have accepted the highest call to duty.

Be prepared to go wherever and whenever you are needed to defend our nation, even at the cost of personal comfort,” he charged.

The ceremony recognized outstanding recruits, with awards presented to the top performers.

Recruit Odo Maurice received the Chief of Army Staff Award for the best overall recruit, while Recruit Obasekemi Ibrahim, Recruit Onyema Ozioma, and Recruit Abubakar Mubarak were also honored for their exceptional performance.

In addition to the parade, the COAS commissioned 40 newly remodeled and renovated flats in Chindit Barracks, aimed at improving living conditions for soldiers of corporal rank and below.

The event saw a notable attendance, including the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Balarabe, representing the Governor, and other dignitaries such as the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, and President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives’ Association, Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja.

Expressing gratitude, Gen Lagbaja thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other key government figures for their unwavering support and strategic guidance.
