Tinubu Ensures Prompt Payment of Military Entitlements, Says Defence Minister


The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive actions in ensuring the prompt payment of military salaries and pensions.

Dr. Matawalle expressed his gratitude during a press briefing, highlighting the President’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired military personnel.

The Minister confirmed that military personnel have begun receiving alerts for the three-month salary increment arrears approved by President Tinubu.

He also disclosed that funds for the payment of pensions and other owed entitlements for retired military personnel were released today, marking a significant milestone in addressing long-standing issues.

Dr. Matawalle praised President Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of military personnel, noting that the payment of pension arrears will remain a critical focus of the administration.

He emphasized that this initiative underscores the President’s dedication to improving the living standards of those who have served Nigeria with distinction.

The Minister also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for his instrumental role in facilitating the payments.

Dr. Matawalle reassured military personnel of the administration’s unwavering support, urging them to remain steadfast in their duties.

“Despite initial setbacks, rest assured that Mr. President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” he said.

He highlighted the vital contributions of the Nigerian military in combating insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of criminality, reiterating their indispensable role in ensuring national security.

The Minister concluded by assuring Nigerians of President Tinubu’s resolve to eradicate insecurity in the country, driven by the resilience and readiness of the Armed Forces.
