Terrorists Attack Troops at Checkpoint in Abia State: Five Soldiers And Six Civilians Killed

Tragedy struck at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, near Aba metropolis, as troops of Operation UDO KA were attacked by terrorists identified as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The ambush resulted in the deaths of five military personnel and six civilians.

The surprise attack was launched by terrorists in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs, supported by others hiding in the built-up areas surrounding the checkpoint.

The troops, deployed to enforce peace and protect the local populace, were caught off guard.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the soldiers. “The armed forces mourn the death of these troops as each and every soldier lost in battle is a terrible loss,” he stated.

An investigation into the attack is currently underway.

Major General Buba emphasized the importance of local support in combating terrorist activities, noting that the IPOB exploited the people’s reluctance to fully back military operations. “Winning the war without the support of the people is close to impossible,” he remarked.

In response to the attack, the military has vowed a fierce retaliation. “We will bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat,” Major General Buba declared.

The military’s resolve to counter such threats remains steadfast, with assurances that those responsible for this heinous act will face severe consequences.
