In a recent press release from Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the Armed Forces of Nigeria announced significant progress in their ongoing military operations against terrorists and criminal elements across the country.
The armed forces continue to focus on their counter-insurgency campaign, preventing terrorist groups from achieving their strategic objectives. Troops have been conducting targeted offensives, resulting in the neutralization of key terrorist leaders and their foot soldiers. The latest operations, conducted during the past week, included ambushes, raids, fighting patrols, and other offensive actions.
During these operations, a total of 43 terrorists were neutralized, 115 were arrested, and 87 assorted weapons, along with 666 assorted ammunition, were recovered. The military also successfully arrested 17 individuals involved in oil theft and rescued 39 kidnapped hostages. In the Niger Delta region, troops prevented the theft of an estimated sum of N159,652,620.00.
The recovered items include a variety of weapons such as AK47 rifles, FN rifles, pump action guns, locally fabricated guns, pistols, and ammunition. Additionally, 6 vehicles, 21 mobile phones, 9 motorcycles, 15 bicycles, and other materials used by the criminals were seized.
Specifically, in the Niger Delta area, troops destroyed 20 dugout pits, 29 boats, 31 storage tanks, one tricycle, and 3 vehicles. They also dismantled 25 illegal refining sites, confiscating 315,700 liters of stolen crude oil, 1,200 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 3,158 liters of DPK. Troops have demonstrated their commitment to eradicating illegal activities, with the destruction of cooking ovens, pump machines, and other equipment used in these operations.
Major General Edward Buba expressed confidence in defeating terrorists both on the battlefield and in their hiding places, emphasizing the military’s dedication to the betterment of the nation. He called on the public to act responsibly and support the military in their efforts, urging citizens to consider themselves as an extension of the military force in the ongoing war against terrorism.
