Speaker Abbas Mourns Former IGP Solomon Arase, Describes Him as Thoroughbred Officer

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase, describing him as a thoroughbred civil servant.

Arase passed away on Sunday in Abuja at the age of 69 after a brief illness.

Appointed IGP in April 2015, Arase retired in June 2016 before later serving as Chairman of the PSC until 2024. Speaker Abbas praised his legacy of discipline, reform, and commitment to national service, noting that his performance in both roles remains widely acknowledged.

“Testimonies of his reforms in the police abound in the condolence messages pouring in since his demise,” Abbas said. He urged officers of the Nigeria Police Force and civil servants at large to emulate Arase’s dedication and professionalism, stressing that his life and service will continue to inspire many.

The Speaker commiserated with the Arase family, the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, and the people and government of Edo State. He prayed for the repose of Arase’s soul and for God to comfort those mourning his passing.
