Speaker Abbas Hails President Tinubu’s Remarkable First Year in Office

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his “remarkable one year in office.” According to the Speaker, President Tinubu has demonstrated courageous leadership and taken bold decisions in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Despite inheriting numerous challenges, including insecurity, economic downturn, and national disunity, the Tinubu administration has made significant strides in steadying the ship of state through impactful reforms, policies, and initiatives. One notable example is the removal of the corruption-infested fuel subsidy, which was a necessary economic policy to prevent Nigeria from bankruptcy.

The President has also rolled out various programmes to alleviate the pains associated with the subsidy removal, including grants, education loans, food distribution, fertiliser, and cash transfers. Additionally, he has repositioned the National Social Investment Fund (NSIP) to deliver maximum value to the intended beneficiaries.

Other notable achievements include the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative to provide cheaper alternatives to petrol and diesel. The administration has also attracted long-term local and foreign investments to create new jobs and ensure increased productivity.

The relaunching of the Human Capital Development programme aims to produce healthy, educated, and productive Nigerians for a globally competitive nation. The President’s investment drives across the world have secured about $20bn with potential for more.

Speaker Abbas described President Tinubu as “a listening president who is open to criticism” and lauded his decision to engage workers in determining a living wage and taking measures to curb corruption in public institutions. With President Tinubu, Nigeria is on the path towards achieving economic recovery, growth, and prosperity.

The Speaker also commended the President for maintaining a harmonious relationship with the National Assembly, which has been supporting the government’s policies with necessary legislative actions. The mutual understanding between the two arms of government promotes good governance and ensures a peaceful nation. The National Assembly will continue to give the President the necessary support to succeed.
