Speaker Abbas Condemns Borno Suicide Bombing, Kano Explosion, Calls for Vigilance and Unity

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in two separate deadly incidents—the suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, and the military mortar explosion in Kano State over the weekend.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas described both attacks as “gruesome and barbaric,” lamenting the increasing frequency of violent incidents across the country.

The Konduga attack, which occurred on Friday night, saw a female suicide bomber infiltrate a busy fish market and detonate an improvised explosive device (IED), killing 12 people and injuring 18 others. According to the Borno State Police Command, the explosion happened at about 9:30 p.m., causing chaos and widespread panic.

Barely 24 hours later, tragedy struck in Kano State when a military mortar bomb exploded along the Eastern Bypass in the state capital, killing five individuals. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Speaker Abbas condemned the attacks and called on Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing such devastating events. He stressed the urgent need for enhanced collaboration between the government, its security apparatus, and the general public to ensure the safety of lives and property nationwide.

He also appealed to humanitarian agencies to promptly provide relief and support to victims and their families.

The Speaker offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
