It was an evening of elegance, emotion, and honour as the 7th edition of the Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards dazzled Abuja with splendour and soul on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Held at the luxurious Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro, the event unfolded as a majestic celebration of Nigeria’s unsung patriots—ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things behind the scenes.
Guests began arriving to a red carpet reception that set the tone for a night steeped in style and significance. Traditional royalty, security chiefs, media executives, top government functionaries, and private sector players mingled under warm lights and camera flashes.
Among them were representatives of Nigeria’s security services, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (ably represented by Rear Admiral O.A. Bankole), and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun (represented by Force PRO, ACP Muyiwa Ogunjobi). The Ejeh of Olamaboro and Chairman of the Olamaboro Traditional Council, Chief Simeon Ujah, graced the event as Royal Father of the Day. 
But it was the evening’s host and visionary, Mrs. Ozioma Sonia Odita-Sunday, who held the spotlight with poise and passion. In her welcome address, the project coordinator of the Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards spoke movingly about the mission that drives the initiative.
> “This award is born out of a simple but powerful conviction—that acts of selfless service deserve to be seen and celebrated. These are not just stories of success; they are stories of service. Each recipient here tonight reflects the best of who we are as Nigerians,” she said.
She went on to announce a bold new vision: the Africa Heroes Awards, a pan-African expansion aimed at identifying and honouring silent heroes across the continent. The applause that followed was a standing ovation to a project that has grown from a modest idea into a national institution of hope and recognition. 
A major highlight of the evening was the formal unveiling of the third volume of the “Nigeria Silent Heroes” compendium, curated by the founder of the initiative, veteran journalist Odita Sunday. The book, which chronicles inspiring stories of past and current awardees, was unveiled amid thunderous applause, adding a literary touch to a glamorous night.
The award presentations rolled out with precision and flair. Dressed in elegant evening wear and traditional attire, recipients walked proudly to the stage to receive their plaques under the soft glow of stage lights. It was not just an award show—it was a heartfelt embrace of character, courage, and contribution.
Among the distinguished awardees were, Chief Uche Jeffrey Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology,
ACC Attah John Onoja, Commandant of the NSCDC Mining Marshal, Tony Elumelu, CFR, celebrated entrepreneur and philanthropist and Hajiya Zubaidah Umar, DG of NEMA. 
Others are Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, DG of NIMC, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, FCT Mandate Secretary for Health and Environment, Kehinde Adewole, Publisher of Swift Reporters, and
Vivian Ifeanyichukwu Nkechika and Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Muhammad, broadcast professionals among others.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the awardees, ACC Attah John Onoja expressed gratitude to the organisers for recognising silent contributors to national development. “We are humbled by this honour. This recognition speaks not only to us but to the countless others doing great work quietly. We thank you for bringing us to light,” he said.
Cultural performances by the Afri Theatre Dance Troupe and a soul-stirring poetry rendition by Olayemi Esan added colour and emotion to the ceremony, while elegantly curated gift presentations brought the night to a graceful close.
In a country often focused on loud applause and public glory, the Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards continues to remind us that dignity, devotion, and quiet excellence are worthy of the highest celebration.
