In a recent press release, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided a comprehensive update on the ongoing military operations conducted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria against terrorist, insurgent, and extremist elements.
According to the statement, the military is intensifying efforts to dismantle the leadership and chain of command of terrorist groups, contributing to the enhancement of citizen security.
The statement notes that counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations are proving effective, making the nation safer with each passing day.
It further explains that over the past week, the Armed Forces achieved significant milestones as they neutralized 50 terrorists and apprehended 122, demonstrating their commitment to eradicating these threats.
Additionally, 49 individuals involved in oil theft were arrested, and 182 kidnapped hostages were successfully rescued. Troops also recovered an arsenal of 66 assorted weapons and 11,474 pieces of ammunition.
The seized items include a conqueror APC, a GPMG, an NSVT gun, a GT3 rifle, 25 AK47 rifles, and various other firearms, as well as grenades, ammunition rounds, vehicles, mobile phones, and a substantial amount of cash.
In the Niger Delta area, the military conducted operations resulting in the destruction of 242 dugout pits, 49 boats, 78 storage tanks, and 49 illegal refining sites.
The troops recovered 151,850 litres of stolen crude oil, 48,630 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 10,125 litres of DPK and equally dismantled infrastructure used in these illegal activities, including vehicles and cooking ovens.
The statement adds that in the South-South region, troops prevented an estimated N128,066,825.00 worth of oil theft.
