In an official statement released by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have achieved substantial success in their ongoing military operations to eradicate terrorism and maintain national security.
The primary objective of these operations, as reiterated by Major General Buba, is to find and destroy terrorist elements, ensuring their enduring defeat and safeguarding citizens across the country.
Over the past week, the focus has been on striking terrorist enclaves through air attacks and deploying significant military power to eliminate their presence. As a result, 86 terrorists have been neutralized, and 101 have been apprehended. Additionally, 30 individuals involved in oil theft have been arrested, and 21 kidnapped hostages rescued.
In the Niger Delta region, troops have made significant strides, denying oil theft amounting to N736,115,470. Furthermore, 111 assorted weapons and 1,124 assorted ammunition were recovered. These include 65 AK47 rifles, one HK G3 dun, and various other firearms.
The Armed Forces’ commitment is evident in the recovery of stolen assets, including vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and mobile phones. Troops discovered and destroyed 37 dugout pits, 65 boats, 71 storage tanks, and 60 illegal refining sites. Notably, 1,013,530 litres of stolen crude oil and 299,169 litres of illegally refined AGO were recovered.
Major General Buba emphasized that the operations specifically target terrorist commanders and their senior leadership, making it clear that they are “dead men walking.”
