In a significant move to address the challenges facing the North West region, the Senate has passed the North West Development Commission (NWDC) bill during today’s plenary session. The bill, sponsored by Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and 20 other senators from the region, aims to establish the NWDC to fast-track the socio-economic development of the region.
The NWDC will bring the Federal Government closer to the states in the region, meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people. It will play a pivotal role in restoring infrastructure destroyed by insurgents and bandits in the seven states, said Senator Jibrin.
Expressing gratitude, Senator Jibrin thanked his colleagues in the Senate for their unwavering support, noting that every senator present supported this vital initiative. This highlights the collective commitment to the progress of the region and the nation at large.
The bill will now be sent to the House of Representatives for approval and subsequently to the President for assent. This development marks a significant step towards addressing the challenges facing the North West region and promoting socio-economic development.
