The Senate has removed Sen. Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) as its Chief Whip, replacing him with Sen. Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno North) and asked to resign from APC if he so wishes . This decision follows a letter from the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, titled “Complaints Against the Unbecoming Utterances of Sen. Ali Ndume”.
The letter was read during Wednesday’s plenary session, after which the Senate unanimously resolved to replace Ndume with Monguno through a voice vote. This move comes shortly after Ndume publicly criticized the current economic hardship in the country, alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was being held hostage by a cabal in the Aso Presidential Villa.
Ndume’s comments sparked controversy, and his removal as Chief Whip is seen as a consequence of his outspoken remarks. The Senate’s decision to replace him with Monguno reflects the chamber’s desire to maintain unity and avoid further controversy. As the new Chief Whip, Monguno will play a crucial role in maintaining order and discipline within the Senate.
