Rivers State Police Command Bolsters Maritime Security with Six Armoured Gunboats


The Rivers State Police Command has received six newly commissioned armoured gunboats to enhance security along the state’s waterways.

The boats, donated by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, are expected to strengthen maritime security and support ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the region.

The commissioning ceremony, held in Rivers State, was attended by senior police officials, government representatives, and key stakeholders. 

Representing the IGP at the event, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Operations, Ali Mohammed Ali, commended the initiative, describing it as a strategic move to reinforce safety across Nigeria’s waterways. He called on residents and maritime operators to support law enforcement in maintaining law and order.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, lauded the Inspector-General’s commitment to security, aligning the donation with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. 

He also praised the Rivers State Police Command for its relentless efforts in fighting crime.

Dignitaries at the event included the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, AIG Adebola Hamzat; Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Alonyenu Idu; Chairman of the Maritime Union, Israel Pepple; and other top security officials.

Speaking at the event, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, assured that the new gunboats would be deployed effectively to enhance security on the waterways.

He reiterated the police command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The Rivers State Police Command expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for the donation and reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining security and combating criminal activities.
