At the Sunday service of Refreshing Word Christian Centre, Rev. Elijah Abdulmalik delivered a stirring message on the importance of spiritual gifts in the life of every believer, urging Christians to actively desire and manifest them for the advancement of God’s kingdom.
Preaching on the Series “The Gifts of the Spirit: titled Coveting the Spirit,” Rev. Abdulmalik drew his teaching from several scriptural references, including 1 Corinthians 12:7-9, 31; Ephesians 4:11-12; 2 Timothy 1:5-7; John 14:12; and Romans 10:9-10.
He emphasized that the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is not reserved for a select few but is expected of all believers.
“Everyone is expected to be a tool for the manifestation of the Spirit,” he said. “If you don’t currently operate in any spiritual gift, the Scriptures make it clear that you can desire them.”
The clergyman noted that many believers are failing to operate in their divine calling because they have disconnected from the body of Christ. “We have separated ourselves from the saints, and that is why the gifts are not manifesting in us,” he said. “Once you identify with Christ, you are automatically enlisted as a soldier in His army, and you must take up your assignment.”
According to him, God has not only sent His people but also equipped them with spiritual tools to fulfill the Great Commission. “God didn’t leave us empty; we have the Holy Ghost,” he declared.
Rev. Abdulmalik also outlined key hindrances to walking in the Spirit, which include ignorance, lack of desire, fear, and doubt. He then offered practical steps for coveting spiritual gifts, urging believers to:
- Pray for the gifts (Luke 11:13)
- Cultivate a close relationship with the Holy Spirit through obedience and sacrifice
- Step out in faith with boldness
“The manifestation of these gifts is not optional,” he stressed. “They are essential for fulfilling your divine purpose and making an impact in the kingdom.”
The message was a strong call to action for Christians to reflect on their contributions to the work of God and to actively seek to operate in the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
