Rep Odebunmi sensitizes youths on dangers of drug abuse


Issues around implications of drug abuse took the centre stage at a Media literacy and Advocacy Program put together by Member representing Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Rep.Segun Odebunmi, in Igbo Ile, Ogbomoso

 

Targeted at youths in Surulere local government, the program had as participants stakeholders drawn from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and other agencies.

Speaking at the event, the facilitator, Rep. Segun Odebunmi, represented by Mr Maruf Ajibolu who said the program was to sensitize selected youths on dangers of drug abuse encouraged them to be good ambassadors in their societies.

 

He maintained that the drive to rid the society of peddling and consuming of illicit drugs prompted the initiative, promising to always strive hard to give back to the society

 

On his part one of the

guest speakers, a consultant Psychiatrist, Dr.Adeola Oduyebo who noted that drug abuse was a social threat to the youth stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to eradicate it.

 

Dr Oduyebo explained that use of Marijuana, Colorado, Tramadol, Skunk and Skoochy among others causes physical and psychological side effects on the body.

 

Addressing the participants, the representative of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Ogbomoso

,Mrs Bukola Adeoye maintained that the agency was committed to sensitizing and enlightening Nigerians on dangers of drug abuse .

Mrs.Adeoye also gave assurance that the agency would continue to be up and doing in the fight against all forms of drug abuse.

 

Two of the participants who spoke to newsmen described the program as an eye opener and pledged to make use of all the learnt.
