The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of three Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), alongside the elevation of 16 Deputy Commissioners to substantive Commissioners of Police.
Among those promoted are officers serving in key commands, including Yobe and Kwara State Commands, as well as the Border Patrol Unit. The newly appointed AIGs have previously held crucial roles in intelligence, counter-terrorism, and state command operations. The promoted Commissioners of Police also include officers with extensive experience in various police formations across the country.
The promotions were ratified during an extraordinary meeting of the Commission, presided over by its Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu. Other members present included a retired Supreme Court Justice, a retired Deputy Inspector General representing the police, and the Commission’s Secretary.
The process for elevation involved rigorous written examinations and oral interviews. Addressing the newly promoted officers, the Commission’s Chairman cautioned against interference in civil matters such as land disputes, marital conflicts, and debt recovery, emphasizing that such cases should be left for the courts to adjudicate. He warned that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against any officer found violating this directive.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to monitoring officers’ performance while ensuring the necessary support to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
