PSC Launches Whistle-Blowing Policy to Curb Recruitment Malpractices in Police Force

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved a whistle-blowing policy aimed at eliminating corruption and malpractice in the recruitment processes of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The Commission, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the initiative is designed to guarantee a transparent, merit-based, and fair recruitment process while giving Nigerians a secure channel to report acts of fraud, bribery, and unethical practices.

According to the PSC, the new policy is anchored on the principles of good governance and is aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly Priority Area 2 on National Security and Priority Area 8 on Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption.

“We believe that a credible, professional, and trustworthy Police Force is the cornerstone of national security, and that reporting malpractices is a patriotic duty that directly contributes to a safer Nigeria,” the Commission stated.

It noted that the policy empowers citizens to act as watchdogs in the recruitment process by reporting various forms of malpractice, including bribery, falsification of credentials, manipulation of test results, sexual harassment, ghost candidates, impersonation, and any other unethical conduct by officials or middlemen.

To encourage whistle-blowers, the PSC assured that all reports would be treated with the highest level of confidentiality, and individuals who provide credible information will be protected from victimisation, intimidation, or retaliation as provided under Nigerian laws.

“Every credible report will be promptly, independently, and thoroughly investigated, and decisive disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against anyone found culpable of recruitment malpractices,” the statement added.

The Commission also urged Nigerians to provide detailed reports of incidents, including names, dates, and locations, through dedicated phone lines—08065265651, 08059544355, 09159329404, and 08035866677—or via email at info@psc.gov.ng. Complaints can also be submitted through the PSC’s website and official social media handles.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening national security through a credible police recruitment process, the PSC called on Nigerians to join in building a more professional and accountable Police Force.

“Your courage can make the difference,” the Commission emphasized.
