PSC Chairman Seeks FCC Partnership on Police Recruitment, Vows to Curb Racketeering

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Salihu Argungu, has issued a stern warning against any form of fraud or racketeering in the upcoming Nigeria Police Force (NPF) recruitment exercise. He emphasized that the Commission will not tolerate sharp practices and is committed to a transparent, fair, and accountable process.

Argungu sounded the warning on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Kayode Oladele, in Abuja. The PSC boss was accompanied by a delegation including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, the Commissioner representing the Judiciary on the PSC board.

While no official date has been fixed for the commencement of the 2025 recruitment for Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Inspectors, Argungu said early collaboration with key stakeholders such as the FCC is essential to ensuring integrity in the process.

“We must resist any unacceptable conduct or manipulation during the recruitment. There will be no room for discretion, waiver, or replacement. These practices undermine the principles of fairness and equity,” Argungu stated.

He stressed that the PSC is determined to uphold national values of equity, accountability, and transparency and called on the FCC to support efforts to prevent irregularities in the recruitment process.

Responding, FCC Chairman Hon. Kayode Oladele welcomed the visit as a symbol of inter-agency collaboration and a shared vision for national development.

“This partnership is a testament to our joint commitment to the ideals of fairness, justice, equity, and national cohesion as enshrined in the Constitution,” Oladele said.

He highlighted the importance of inclusive recruitment, noting that a diverse police force promotes public trust, enhances security, and ensures unbiased service delivery. “Together, we can lay a foundation for sustainable peace and a more united Nigeria,” he added.

The FCC Chairman pledged the Commission’s full support in monitoring the recruitment to ensure compliance with federal character principles and contribute to the success of the PSC’s mandate.

The renewed collaboration comes amid preparations for the next round of police recruitment, with expectations high for a process that reflects Nigeria’s diversity and integrity.
