PSC Chairman Embraces Collaboration with Garki Bar, Pledges Support for Prison Visitation and Legal Aid


In a bid to strengthen ties between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the legal fraternity, the Chairman of the PSC, Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police, welcomed a delegation from the Nigeria Bar Association’s Garki branch.

Led by Chairman Bar. Obioma Ezenwobodo, the delegation’s visit on Friday, April 12th, 2024, marked a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the two entities.

Bar. Ezenwobodo highlighted the proactive stance of the Garki Bar, boasting a membership of 1500 vibrant lawyers.

He emphasized the pivotal role of the PSC in the justice system and advocated for a collaborative effort to address challenges, particularly instances of police officers unlawfully detaining lawyers during official duties.

Expressing solidarity with the Garki Bar’s initiative to provide legal aid through prison visitations, Dr. Arase pledged the Commission’s full support, including the participation of PSC staff in these visits.

Furthermore, he condemned pre-trial detention, affirming the Commission’s commitment to intervening in cases where due process is not followed.

The Chairman assured the visiting delegation of the Commission’s active involvement in the Bar’s activities, including conferences and training programs for staff lawyers.

He reiterated his encouragement for PSC lawyers to deliver their utmost in service.

This collaborative effort signifies a step forward in promoting justice, protecting legal practitioners, and advocating for the rights of the vulnerable in society.
