PSC Chairman Charges Newly Promoted Officers to See Promotion as Call to Greater Service

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, mni, has urged newly promoted senior police officers to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, discipline, and sacrifice, rather than a reward marking the end of their service.

Argungu, represented by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, made the charge on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at a special commendation session and grand reception organized by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in honour of the officers.

He stressed that promotion in the police should be seen as a new beginning, especially at a time when the Nigeria Police Force faces enormous challenges ranging from violent crimes and insurgency to cybercrime and the complex demands of democratic policing.

“The nation will continue to look up to you to demonstrate leadership, integrity, and professionalism at all times,” the PSC Chairman said.

Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to a promotion process that is merit-driven, transparent, and anchored on due process, noting that such an approach is crucial for boosting morale, inspiring confidence, and repositioning the Nigeria Police for optimum performance.

The PSC Chairman also commended the PCRC for its consistent support to the Force and the Commission, describing the partnership as proof that security is a shared responsibility. He called for stronger collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.

Reminding the officers that “to whom much is given, much is expected,” Argungu charged them to wear their new ranks with humility, execute their duties with renewed vigour, and remain worthy ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force.
