PSC Chairman Calls for Legal Reforms to Keep Pace with Technology

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), has emphasized the urgent need for robust legal frameworks that can keep pace with rapidly advancing technologies, particularly in the era of the Internet of Everything (IoE).

DIG Argungu made the call in a message delivered on his behalf by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, at the Call to Bar Reception and Book Launch of a Commission staff, Awar Oliver Gwajime. The event was held at the Parry Osayande Auditorium of the PSC headquarters in Abuja.

The PSC Chairman noted that the IoE is significantly reshaping how people live, work, govern, and enforce laws, with far-reaching implications for national security, privacy, human rights, and governance.

“In law enforcement, we are already witnessing how digital surveillance, big data, and artificial intelligence are reshaping our operational landscape,” he said.

Speaking on the newly launched book titled “Law, Science and Technology (LAST): Jurisprudential Interrogation of the Internet of Everything (IoE),” DIG Argungu described the work as a bold exploration of the convergence between law, science, and technology in the digital age.

He commended the author, Gwajime, for his intellectual contribution, describing the book as a timely intervention that challenges the legal profession to think critically about the evolving relationship between jurisprudence and digital innovation.

“The book is more than just a title—it is a statement of purpose and vision,” Argungu stated, adding that the author exemplifies discipline, diligence, and the pursuit of knowledge within public institutions.

He urged public servants to emulate Gwajime’s commitment to scholarship and national development. “Today, we celebrate excellence, scholarship, and ambition. We salute a new member of the legal profession and a rising thought leader in the domain of law and technology,” he said.

In his remarks, the author expressed gratitude to the PSC leadership, colleagues, and well-wishers for their support. He extended special appreciation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume, represented by Prof. Babatunde; the Inspector General of Police, represented by AIG Mohammed Gumel; and Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, who chaired the occasion.

The event brought together dignitaries from across the legal, security, and academic communities to celebrate Gwajime’s achievement and reflect on the growing need for legal adaptability in an increasingly digital world.
