PSC Chairman Assures New Constables of Career Growth, Warns Against Misconduct

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd.), has assured the newly graduated police constables of the Commission’s commitment to their career progression and professional development. Argungu made this pledge during the passing-out ceremonies held across various police colleges and schools in Nigeria following the completion of their six-month training program.

Speaking through representatives of the Commission, Argungu emphasized that the PSC, as the employer of the Nigeria Police Force, will ensure that the constables’ career growth remains predictable and adheres to established rules and regulations. However, he issued a stern warning, stating that the Commission will not hesitate to sanction any officer who deviates from the profession’s ethical standards.

“The Commission will closely monitor your activities from today and will sanction any deviant behavior while commending gallantry and commitment to duty,” Argungu stated. He reminded the recruits that the office of a constable is a dignified position that commands respect and urged them to conduct themselves honorably.

The PSC Chairman highlighted the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and terrorism. He commended the Federal Government’s efforts to bolster the police force through manpower recruitment and logistical support, urging the recruits to reciprocate these efforts by working collaboratively with other security agencies to address the nation’s security issues.

Expressing confidence in their preparedness, Argungu noted the rigorous and demanding training program the recruits had undergone. He charged them to uphold the principles of law and order while protecting lives and property. “Go out and make our nation proud,” he urged.

He also reminded the new officers of the constitutional mandate of the Police Service Commission as enshrined in Section 153 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the PSC to oversee recruitment, promotions, dismissals, and disciplinary actions within the police force.

In conclusion, Argungu congratulated the recruits on successfully completing their training and urged them to strive for excellence in their new roles. “The sky should be your limit,” he said, wishing them a rewarding and productive career in the Nigeria Police Force.

The Chairman’s message was delivered on his behalf by Heads of Departments and Units in the Commission at the various training colleges.
