PSC Chair Warns Against Bribery as Police Inspectors’ Promotion Interviews Begin May 19

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning to officers scheduled to participate in the upcoming promotion interviews against any form of financial inducement, ahead of the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interviews for promotion to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II).

The interviews are slated to begin on Monday, May 19, 2025, and will be conducted simultaneously across the 17 Zonal Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force.

Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Hashimu Argungu, confirmed that PSC staff will be deployed to the zones to conduct the exercise in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a strong message to candidates, DIG Argungu cautioned against the practice of contributing money to influence the promotion process, describing it as unethical and punishable.

“The Commission will deal ruthlessly with any Police Officer or Officers found to be involved in any form of bribery or inducement of PSC or Police officials,” he said. “Such officers will not only face disciplinary action but will be publicly disgraced.”

The PSC Chairman acknowledged reports of financial contributions made in the past by candidates to supervising officials, vowing that the Commission is determined to end the discreditable practice and restore integrity to the promotion process.

He reiterated that promotions in the Nigeria Police Force will henceforth be based strictly on merit and availability of vacancies. He advised officers preparing for the DSB interview to focus on earning their promotions through competence and professionalism.

“The Commission will continue to promote a Police Force that is effective, disciplined, and capable of securing the nation and maintaining law and order,” he added.
