PSC Chair Urges Board Members to Prioritize Public Interest and Uphold Transparency

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, has called on newly appointed Board Members of the Commission to be accountable in their duties and place the interests of the Commission and citizens above personal or parochial concerns.

DIG Argungu made the call on Day 3 of the ongoing four-day induction programme for Board Members, holding in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. Themed “Enhancing the Key Standards of Corporate Governance,” the programme aims to equip members with the principles and expectations of ethical public service.

Speaking during a session on Accountability and Transparency, the PSC Chairman emphasized that transparency must be a core value of good governance. “Transparency promotes openness of action in the decision-making process and encourages consultative processes with relevant stakeholders,” he stated.

Argungu further reminded the Board Members to engage in all transactions with forthrightness, honesty, and openness, noting that governance systems must be strengthened to enhance effective management within government parastatals.

Also speaking at the event, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd.), who chaired the second session of the programme, assured management staff of the Commission that the new Board is committed to repositioning the Commission for efficient service delivery. He added that the Board will engage with relevant government authorities to ensure the Commission receives the entitlements and institutional respect necessary to fulfill its constitutional mandate.

The induction programme is expected to conclude on Thursday, April 30, 2025.
