The Police Service Commission’s three-day Board Induction and Strategic Management Retreat for its newly appointed Board Members will take place in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, from Monday, April 28th to Wednesday, April 30th, 2025.
The retreat, holding at the Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, is designed to provide a robust platform for engaging critical stakeholders on strategies to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and deepen accountability in law enforcement governance.
The Special Guest of Honour is the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON. Other distinguished guests expected include Members of the National Assembly, State Governors, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, the Inspector General of Police, traditional rulers, and other eminent personalities.
Their participation is expected to significantly enrich the discussions and reinforce the commitment of sub-national governments to security sector reform and effective collaboration with oversight institutions.
Renowned technocrats will deliver insightful papers aimed at guiding the Commission’s Board Members as they commence their tenure and assume their strategic responsibilities. The retreat is positioned to be a transformative event in shaping the future of police oversight and governance in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), mni, will lead the Board Members and the Secretary to the Commission to the three-day programme.
This retreat also aims to acquaint the new appointees with their oversight roles, particularly in police operations, accountability promotion, and reform implementation within the Nigeria Police Force.
Stakeholders from across the country are expected to attend the induction, which is structured to equip the Board with strategic tools for enhancing policing standards and rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement.
DIG Argungu noted that the retreat is timely, coming at a moment when the Commission needs renewed energy and focus to effectively carry out its constitutional mandate. He emphasized that the new Board Members are expected to return from Ikot Ekpene fully motivated to execute the Commission’s core responsibilities, including recruitment, promotion, discipline, and overall oversight of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
