The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 38 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and elevated 100 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the position of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The decision was made during the Commission’s extraordinary plenary meeting on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The meeting was presided over by PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd.), mni, and attended by other key members, including Justice Adamu Paul Galmuje (Rtd.), Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd.), fdc, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police; and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
The newly promoted officers, drawn from various commands and formations across the country, include those serving in critical investigative, operational, and administrative roles.
Among them are officers from the Force Secretary’s Office, State Criminal Investigation Departments (CIDs), Zonal Commands, and Divisional Police Offices (DPOs), reflecting a broad elevation of experienced personnel within the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotions are part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to reward competence, dedication, and exemplary service. According to DIG Argungu, the PSC remains committed to ensuring that deserving officers receive due recognition for their contributions to national security.
He urged the promoted officers to justify their new ranks by intensifying efforts in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges.
“The Commission remains steadfast in its mission to reward hard work and dedication. However, we expect our officers to rededicate themselves to the service of our nation, ensuring that the war against crime and insecurity is given the attention it deserves,” he stated.
With this latest round of promotions, the PSC continues to reinforce professionalism and career progression within the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring that leadership roles are occupied by officers with the experience and capacity to enhance policing in the country.
