Proliferation of Small Arms Linked to Oil Theft in Niger Delta, says Badaru

In a keynote address at the 13th National Security Seminar in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Defence, H.E. Muhammed Badaru Abubabar, highlighted the detrimental impact of small arms proliferation on security in the Niger Delta.

He emphasized that illegal activities such as crude oil theft and kidnapping are facilitated by the availability of small and light weapons in the region.

The seminar, organized by the Alumni Association of the National Defence College, served as a crucial platform for discussing pressing national security issues and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

Badaru stressed that crude oil theft and illegal refining pose significant threats to the nation’s economy and citizenry, asserting that the government will not tolerate such crimes.

Under the theme “Curbing Oil Theft and Illegal Crude Oil Refining in Nigeria,” the Minister urged decisive action to combat these activities and restore normalcy to affected communities.

He emphasized the importance of employing comprehensive strategies and leveraging appropriate technology to enhance situational awareness and execution in the Niger Delta.

Badaru commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to national security and acknowledged the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and other agencies in addressing insecurity.

He attributed the increase in crude oil production to the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and highlighted President Tinubu’s support towards enhancing national security.

In conclusion, the Minister commended the Alumni Association of the National Defence College for raising awareness about these critical issues and assured that efforts are underway to achieve desired national objectives.
