President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has inaugurated the newly constructed Nigerian Army Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja.
The state-of-the-art facility, named in his honor, is part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and provide conducive living and working conditions for the country’s defenders.
Speaking at the commissioning, President Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting the armed forces.

He highlighted the significance of providing adequate office and residential accommodations for troops, affirming that the Federal Government is steadfast in ensuring the well-being of military personnel.
The President commended the Nigerian Army’s dedication to safeguarding the nation and described the troops as national heroes for their unwavering service.
“The Federal Government will continue to prioritize the welfare of our troops, enabling them to fulfill their constitutional mandate effectively,” President Tinubu said.
He also urged the Nigerian Army to maintain the development and upkeep of its facilities while remaining committed to the welfare of its personnel.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, expressed gratitude to the President for his extraordinary support, noting that naming the barracks after him was a gesture of appreciation.
He disclosed that the completed phases of the project currently provide accommodation for 614 personnel, including 170 officers, 444 soldiers, and their families. Phases 3 and 4 are set to follow, pending further support from the government.
Gen Oluyede also acknowledged the vision and efforts of his predecessors, Lt Gen Farouk Yahaya and the late Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, for initiating and pursuing the project to address critical accommodation needs within the Nigerian Army.
In his remarks, the COAS reaffirmed the Army’s loyalty to the Constitution and the Federal Government, pledging continued support in ensuring national security and socio-economic stability.
He also called for sustained government and public backing to further enhance the welfare of soldiers working tirelessly for Nigeria’s peace and prosperity.
In addition to the barracks commissioning, President Tinubu also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an ultra-modern Armed Forces Complex in Abuja, further demonstrating his administration’s commitment to bolstering the operational capabilities of Nigeria’s military.
