President Tinubu and National Assembly Celebrating a Year of Harmonious Partnership
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, describing it as “good for democracy.” Speaking at a special joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives, Abbas commended President Tinubu for his performance over the past year, saying the National Assembly is “delighted” with his report card.
The Speaker expressed gratitude for the partnership between the President and the National Assembly, describing it as “mutually beneficial” and a “win-win” for democracy. This historic joint sitting marked the 25th anniversary of Nigeria’s return to democracy and the first anniversary of the current administration. It was also the first time President Tinubu and the National Assembly recited the newly reinstated national anthem, “Nigeria We Hail Thee.”
The President had earlier assented to the bill reverting the country to its original national anthem, introduced at independence in the First Republic. The Speaker announced the postponement of activities scheduled for the celebration, citing an error in marking May 29 as Democracy Day instead of June 12. The correct celebrations will take place on June 12, as advised by the President.
