The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed and approved the prosecution of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) over allegations of misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, and sabotage, describing their actions as unbecoming of public officers.
In addition, the Commission has sanctioned six other officers by reducing their ranks. These include two Superintendents of Police demoted to Deputy Superintendents, one Deputy Superintendent reduced to the rank of Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents demoted to Inspectors.
These decisions were part of the outcomes of the Commission’s 2nd Plenary Meeting held at its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The Commission also issued severe reprimands to ten senior officers found guilty of unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, and sabotage. Another nine officers were reprimanded, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was exonerated after being found not guilty. Furthermore, an Assistant Superintendent of Police received a warning letter.
As part of its oversight on career progression, the PSC approved the promotion of numerous senior officers, including:
11 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General of Police.
16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners.
21 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.
57 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners.
1,348 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents.
Among those promoted were notable officers such as Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick, former Commander of the Anti-Narcotics Section, FCT Command, now serving at Kaduna Command, and Milicent Amadi, Officer in Charge of Surveillance, State CID, Ebonyi State Command. Additionally, 876 Deputy Superintendents were promoted to Superintendents, including Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State Command.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), emphasized the importance of discipline within the force, stating that it is essential for officers to effectively uphold their constitutional duties of law enforcement and protection of lives and property.
He also assured that the Commission would prioritize resolving Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) promptly to avoid stagnation for deserving officers.
The decisions of the plenary have been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a disciplined and professional police force capable of meeting the expectations of the Nigerian public.
