The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against crime with the rescue of 12 kidnapped victims, the arrest of suspected terrorists, and the recovery of cash, arms, and ammunition in coordinated operations across the country.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on April 20, 2025, the operations underscore the renewed vigour of the Police in curbing criminality and ensuring national security.
In Imo State, police operatives, working in collaboration with local vigilante groups, stormed a suspected hideout of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), on Cameron Street, Ubahu, Okigwe Local Government Area. The raid, which occurred in the early hours of April 17, led to a gun duel during which three suspects—Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent (21), Ugwu Ikenna (31), and Ofor Kasarachi (37)—were apprehended.
Items recovered at the scene include one AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges, several mobile devices, laptops, and a total of ₦10.3 million in cash suspected to be proceeds of kidnapping for ransom.
In another successful operation in Edo State, police operatives rescued 10 students abducted while en route to Babcock University for the GYC Africa Conference on April 16. The students were freed unharmed following a fierce exchange of gunfire, which led to the death of one of the kidnappers.
Additionally, on April 18, at about 9:15 PM, the Edo State Police Command rescued two more kidnapped victims who were abducted from their residence in the Oluoke community on April 14.
Commending the officers involved, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised their bravery and professionalism. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, respecting human rights, and ensuring that no criminal act goes unchecked.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will continue to work tirelessly to combat crime in all its forms,” the IGP stated.
The operations reflect the ongoing strategic efforts by the Force to root out criminal elements and restore peace across troubled regions in Nigeria.
