The 2024 Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) and communications experts, themed “Strengthening the Nigeria Police Force Oversight and Accountability,” concluded in Asaba, Delta State, on November 21, 2024.
The event, which commenced on November 18, culminated in a regimental dinner celebrating achievements in public relations and police accountability.
The conference provided a platform for resource persons, public relations experts, non-governmental organizations, and international bodies to train police PROs on effective communication, human relations, and enhancing public trust. It aimed to foster greater oversight and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
Highlighting the event, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, represented by Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, presented awards to outstanding officers.
Honorees included PPROs from the Federal Capital Territory, Bauchi, Delta, and Abia States, alongside ASP Julius Robinson, a tactical team commander in Delta State, recognized for their exceptional dedication to duty.
In his address, the IGP described the conference as a significant milestone towards more effective policing strategies. He expressed gratitude to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State for hosting the event.
The IGP also acknowledged the contributions of supporting agencies and international organizations, reiterating the importance of public support for the police’s innovative measures aimed at improving oversight, accountability, and service delivery.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professional excellence and urged the public to engage with the new reforms introduced by the current police leadership.
The regimental dinner capped an impactful event, marking a renewed dedication to effective policing and public service across Nigeria.
