Police Launch Investigation into Alleged Abuse of Teenager by Popular Lagos Hotelier

A 16-year-old secondary school student in Lagos is reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis after alleging that he was abused by a hotel owner in the Bucknor, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos State.

The incident was disclosed shortly before the New Year when the boy confided in his mother, claiming he and a group of friends had been taken to the hotel for an event. The teenager alleged that the hotel owner made inappropriate advances and warned them against reporting the incident.

Following the confession, the teenager’s father, a local businessman, noted that his son began exhibiting signs of distress, including erratic behavior and incoherent speech. The family sought both spiritual and medical assistance before reporting the matter to the police at Isheri Osun Station.

The boy named other individuals involved in the alleged incident, and one of the students reportedly corroborated parts of the story during questioning.

Medical examinations reportedly indicated signs of trauma, and the boy was referred to a psychiatric hospital for further care. Despite following medical advice, his condition has not significantly improved.

Efforts to invite the hotel owner for questioning faced initial delays, but the case was subsequently transferred to Zone 2, Onikan, for further investigation.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, confirmed that the matter is being thoroughly investigated, with the hotel owner now in custody.

The teenager reportedly identified the hotel owner during questioning. Meanwhile, investigators are reviewing discrepancies in earlier reports to ensure a comprehensive and transparent inquiry.

The incident has drawn widespread concern and calls for increased protection for minors. Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to a fair and thorough investigation.
