Police Intensify Efforts Against Kidnapping and Armed Robbery, Rescues 13 Victims, Arrests 5 Suspects

The Nigeria Police Force has pledged to continue its robust efforts to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of criminality across the country.

In a series of coordinated operations over the past week, police have rescued 13 kidnapping victims and arrested five suspected armed robbers, while seizing firearms and ammunition.

On December 27, 2024, operatives of the Kwara State Police Command acted on a distress call reporting the abduction of 13 individuals in the Idofin-Igbana area.

The police launched an operation, storming the kidnappers’ hideout. Despite facing resistance from the criminals, the police successfully overpowered them, leading to the rescue of the 13 victims. The kidnappers, who suffered injuries during the operation, fled the scene.

In a separate incident, police operatives from the Lagos State Command acted on a report of a public disturbance at Pinnacle Depot in Lekki on December 28, 2024.

Two suspects, identified as 38-year-olds Lawan Mustapha and Aina Daniel, were apprehended after a thorough search yielded one double-barrel rifle, 90 live cartridges, and five model rifles. Both suspects are in custody and undergoing investigation.

Later that day, at approximately 12:45 PM, the Lagos police arrested three suspected armed robbers in GRA Ikeja. A subsequent search revealed one locally made pistol, four live cartridges, and two cutlasses. These suspects are also in police custody and will be prosecuted after investigations.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining public safety.

“We will continue to leverage all available resources to eliminate these heinous crimes and ensure the security of all citizens,” he said.

The police force remains steadfast in its mission to create a safer environment for Nigerians, focusing on eliminating criminal activities nationwide.
