Police Condemn Unprofessional Conduct of Officers in Viral Video

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed strong condemnation over a recent viral video showing officers performing guard duties for a young man and encouraging him to abuse the naira.

The incident, which has garnered widespread attention on social media, has been described as both demeaning and contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.

In an official statement released by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi on June 22, 2024, the police denounced the actions of the officers involved.

“We condemn the content of the video in its entirety as well as all forms of unethical, demeaning, undignified, and unprofessional acts of our officers, especially those that subject them to servitude,” Adejobi stated.

The video in question depicts police officers in a subservient role to a young man, who is seen mishandling the naira. Such conduct is not only seen as disrespectful to the currency but also undermines the dignity of the police force.

The police force has initiated steps to identify and discipline the officers featured in the video.

Additionally, the young man involved has been invited to report to the nearest Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department or the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja for questioning.

“We are taking steps towards identifying the police officers in the video to impose appropriate sanctions,” Adejobi added.

“The young man in the video is hereby called upon to present himself to the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department nearest to him or contact the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for proper investigation into the circumstances of the video.”

The police force has also extended its gratitude to the public for bringing the matter to light, assuring that corrective and punitive measures will be pursued to a conclusive end.

“We appreciate all well-meaning Nigerians for bringing this to public knowledge and assure them that the corrective and punitive steps being taken will be brought to a conclusive and definitive end,” the statement concluded.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about professionalism within the police force and the need for adherence to ethical standards in all duties.

The Nigeria Police Force is committed to upholding the law and maintaining the dignity of its officers and the institution as a whole.
