The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in addressing the growing security challenges in Imo State, particularly the recent wave of kidnappings and other criminal activities.
In a series of operations, the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to kidnappings in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas of the state, as well as the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim.
The suspects, identified as Umaru Usman (40), Tukur Yau (25), Musbau Sabo (18), Abdul Ibrahim (30), and Jubrin Idris (35), all hailing from Sokoto and Kano States, were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu, Imo State. Their arrest marks a critical achievement in the fight against kidnapping in the state.
In another operation on the same day, police operatives arrested 25-year-old Nwauba Alex from Ezza LGA, Ebonyi State.
Alex was caught attempting to rob two residents at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. The police recovered a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights from the suspect.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reiterated that the police remain relentless in their efforts to ensure the safety of every citizen.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, further emphasized the police’s commitment to combating crime through both proactive and reactive measures aimed at addressing kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities.
“We are not insensitive to the issues of insecurity and the kidnapping of students in Imo State,” Adejobi said, assuring the public of ongoing efforts to fortify security measures in the region.
The Nigeria Police Force encourages citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as they work to restore peace and security across the nation.
