PLANNED NATIONWIDE PROTEST: FCT POLICE COMMAND DEPLOYS 4,200 POLICE OFFICERS, ASSURES RESIDENTS OF SAFETY OF LIVES & PROPERTIES


As CP vows to resist violent protest.

The FCT Police Command, in anticipation of the planned nationwide protest by human rights activists and Nigerian youths expressing displeasure over hunger and hardship, has proactively deployed 4,200 police officers and resources across the Federal Capital Territory.

This is contained in a statement by the public relations officer of the command Josephine Adeh in Abuja.

This proactive deployment, aimed at ensuring public safety, protection of protesters, and preventing the protest from being hijacked by non-state actors, includes visibility policing, the deployment of explosive ordinance device (EOD) experts at strategic locations, raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties, as well as stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and coordination with sister security agencies.

Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, acknowledged the residents’ right to protest but advised that it should remain peaceful. The CP vowed to resist all forms of violent protest and lawlessness, emphasizing that the police would not permit the destruction of public and private properties or the loss of lives.
