The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan, General Shahir Shamsad Mirza, on Wednesday paid a strategic visit to Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa.
General Musa welcomed the Pakistani Defence Chief and expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a reaffirmation of the strong military cooperation between both countries. He noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces would continue to deepen capacity-building efforts through collaboration with the Pakistani military.
Highlighting the areas of cooperation, the CDS emphasized the significance of joint efforts in Special Forces training, veteran affairs management, border security, and intelligence sharing. He revealed that over 2,000 Nigerian officers have already benefited from training programs in various Pakistani military institutions.
In his remarks, General Mirza praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their resilience in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats. He lauded the long-standing mutual relationship between Nigeria and Pakistan, noting shared cultural, religious, and social values.
Describing Nigeria as a “giant leader in Africa,” General Mirza acknowledged the country’s geostrategic relevance and expressed a desire for enhanced defence cooperation. He particularly looked forward to building a robust partnership with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), citing shared security challenges and mutual interests.
The visit marks a significant step in strengthening defence ties and promoting bilateral military cooperation between the two nations.
