The Honourable Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has emphasized the importance of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) management utilizing the review of the act to address any revenue gaps within the agency. She made this statement while receiving the NPTF management team, led by Executive Secretary Mohammed Sheidu, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Minister underscored the need for the NPTF to seek alternative avenues for resource mobilization, highlighting the urgent requirement for Rapid Intervention Projects to bolster the effectiveness and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
“All the training institutions, barracks, police stations, hospitals, and other facilities need urgent attention. We need new technology to enhance the service delivery of the Nigeria Police Force. We have the largest police force in Africa and must leverage existing resources with sincerity of purpose,” she stated.
Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim pointed out that the intervention projects require substantial funding and called for support from all stakeholders. She noted that the Ministry is harmonizing reforms in partnership with stakeholders to implement practical reforms within the police force.
“There is a lot of work to do, and you cannot do it alone. You must collaborate with the police and the Ministry to avoid duplication of efforts and create an effective strategy that will improve service delivery of the NPF to citizens,” she added.
She also highlighted the symbolic presence of the police across the country, urging all government agencies to consider the role of the police during the planning stages to ensure effective national security.
Earlier, Executive Secretary Mohammed Sheidu pledged to do his utmost for the Nigeria Police Force and its security infrastructure. He acknowledged the critical role of the NPTF in the ongoing federal government reforms, emphasizing the need for a secure environment to facilitate investment and growth.
“The Nigeria Police Trust Fund is a focal point, and it will become more visible to end-users, with people soon feeling the agency’s impact. I assure you that this is what will happen,” he stated.
