Nigerian Military Intensifies Operations Against Terrorism, Oil Theft, and Criminality

The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with hybrid forces, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), and other security agencies, have intensified their operations against terrorists, oil thieves, and criminal elements across the country.

Over the past ten days, numerous terrorists were neutralized, key collaborators arrested, and several kidnapped victims rescued.

In the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI sustained their offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents. Between March 10 and 19, scores of terrorists—alongside their families—surrendered to the military, while others were killed during clearance operations in Borno and Yobe states.

Troops also arrested 14 suspected terrorist collaborators in Dikwa, Damboa, Gubio, and Gujba LGAs. Additionally, 75 rescued persons, including women and children, were handed over to the Borno State Government.

In the North West, Operation FASAN YAMMA continued its crackdown on armed groups. Troops neutralized several terrorists in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states. Among those killed was a senior terrorist fighter known as Babangida. Security forces also intercepted two high-profile suspects on their watchlist and a known gunrunner.

Meanwhile, Operation WHIRL PUNCH recorded significant breakthroughs in counter-kidnapping operations. On March 14 and 17, troops apprehended three kidnappers and rescued two hostages in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Edo State. Several criminals were also arrested in Kogi State, with weapons and cash recovered.

In the North Central region, troops under Operations SAFE HAVEN and WHIRL STROKE disrupted violent extremist activities. A notorious gunrunner was arrested in Plateau State, and offensive operations in Benue and Nasarawa led to the neutralization of key extremist leaders.

In Taraba and Nasarawa states, troops rescued four kidnapped victims and recovered arms, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles.

The fight against oil theft in the South South gained momentum under Operation DELTA SAFE. Troops dismantled illegal refineries and seized 247,629 liters of stolen crude oil and 198,374 liters of illegally refined diesel. They also arrested 17 oil thieves and recovered weapons.

In the South East, Operation UDO KA targeted IPOB/ESN militants. Security forces clashed with the group in Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo states, leading to the neutralization of some fighters, the arrest of others, and the rescue of a kidnapped victim. Explosives, firearms, and live cartridges were also recovered.

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in line with constitutional responsibilities. The military assured Nigerians of its continuous efforts to eradicate insecurity and restore peace across the country.
