Nigerian Army Set to Revolutionize Operations with Digital Technology

The Nigerian Army (NA) has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging cutting-edge digital technology to enhance operational effectiveness and combat security challenges more efficiently.

This announcement was made during the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation’s digital transformation seminar, held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.

The seminar, themed “Enhancing NA Operational Efficiency Through Digital Transformation and Innovation within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment,” emphasized the role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in modern warfare.

In his keynote address, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, represented by the Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Adeleke Ayannuga, highlighted the military’s shift from traditional methods to smart warfare concepts.

He noted that advanced digital solutions would improve troops’ proficiency, enhance precision in fire support, and strengthen all-weather combat capabilities.

Gen. Oluyede stressed the importance of collaboration with security agencies, government institutions, the private sector, and academia to foster innovation and develop homegrown technological solutions to security challenges.

He assured that under his leadership, the Army would continue to provide necessary resources and guidance for this transformation.

“The Nigerian Army must embrace digital transformation to remain effective in tackling contemporary security threats.

Smart munitions and AI-driven systems will not only improve operational efficiency but also minimize collateral damage during military operations,” the COAS stated.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic support and guidance, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s unwavering loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief.

Earlier, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Major General Olusegun Abai, emphasized that the seminar aligns with the COAS’ command philosophy, which seeks to build a well-motivated and combat-ready force equipped with 21st-century military infrastructure.

He underscored the need for collaboration with other security services and government agencies to maximize the benefits of local technology in addressing security challenges.

The event was attended by representatives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Inspector General of Police, Controller General of Customs, and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, as well as senior officers from Defence and Service Headquarters, principal staff officers, and heads of paramilitary agencies.
