The Nigerian Army is gearing up for the 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) with a series of activities to honor the nation’s military history and the achievements of its soldiers.
Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans Major General Abdulsalam Ibrahim outlined the event’s highlights during a press briefing held at the Nigerian Army Headquarters Conference Room.
The celebration, marking the Army’s 161 years of service since its inception in 1863, commemorates the evolution of the Nigerian Army from the “Glover Hausas” to a formidable force ranked 39th globally by the Global Firepower Index of 2024.
This year’s theme, “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges within a Joint Environment,” emphasizes the need for continuous transformation to enhance combat readiness and national security.
Scheduled activities include special prayers, school engagements to promote patriotism, a medical outreach, and the commissioning of community projects.
A special lecture and an awards ceremony for the inaugural Chief of Army Staff Literary Competitions will also take place on July 4th.
The festivities will culminate on July 6th with a grand finale at the 3 Division Physical Training Ground, featuring parades, equipment displays, and a gala night in Jos, Plateau State.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to attend the grand finale as the Special Guest of Honour.
The Nigerian Army seeks to deepen its partnership with the media and reaffirm its commitment to national security, calling for continued support from all Nigerians.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja assured the nation of the Army’s dedication to resolving security challenges and upholding the Constitution under the strategic guidance of President Tinubu.
