The Nigerian Army has announced a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) to bolster its communication capabilities and enhance military operations across the country.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, confirmed this development today during a meeting with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idereyen, and her delegation at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that it will provide the Army with reliable and secure communication services.
The collaboration is expected to grant the Nigerian Army access to a range of satellite-based services, including telecommunications, navigation, and surveillance, significantly boosting its operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Highlighting the strategic value of NIGCOMSAT’s role, General Lagbaja pointed out its critical contribution to military operations, especially in conflict-prone regions like the North East and North West.
He reiterated the Army’s commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Executive Order 5, which encourages the use of locally made goods and services.
Lauding NIGCOMSAT’s products as top-notch, the Army Chief expressed a keen interest in deepening the existing cooperation between the two organizations.
He also revealed plans to collaborate with NIGCOMSAT on the launch of a new satellite to further enhance military operations.
In her remarks, Mrs. Egerton-Idereyen praised the Nigerian Army for its dedication to national service and assured continued support from NIGCOMSAT.
She announced plans for a new satellite, co-designed specifically for the Armed Forces, aimed at strengthening the military’s operational capabilities and addressing security challenges more effectively.
